The Whitefish Baseball team was back in action, Wednesday, as they traveled up to Eureka for a Conference clash against the Lincoln County Lions.
Reed Boyer hit a 2-run Home Run, Drew Queen had 3 hits and Cullen Wallace was a machine in relief as the Dawgs bullied their way to an 8-1 victory.
This game had a little bit of everything: From great pitching, timely hitting, web gems and more.
The Dawgs opened up the scoring in the 1st as Tait Orme brought home Queen with an infield RBI Single.
Eureka would respond and tied up the game in the botttom of the 2nd thanks to a Leif Burrow RBI Single.
The score held 1-1 all the way into the 5th inning of action.
After a Tait Orme Strikeout and a Fynn Ryan walk, Boyer stepped up to the plate. It was a 1-1 count when Boyer crushed a pitch high into the right center gap that would fly over the fence for the 1st Home Run of the season. That Home run put the Dawgs up 3-1.
Eureka had a chance to answer in the bottom of the fifth. The first two men would get aboard in the inning. A Tyce Van Orden groundout to 2nd, put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
Whitefish pulled the infield in and Cullen Wallace got Rogan Lytle to groundout to shortstop for the 2nd out, leaving the runners where they were.
With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs Wallace would dig in and struck out Brody Champman on a 1-2 count to end the inning.
It was all Whitefish from there. The Dawgs brought home 5 runs in the 6th inning, highlighted by a Luke Dalen 2 RBI Double and Whitefish went on to capture their first win of the season.
The Dawgs, defensively, would turn two double plays in this game as well.
Cullen Wallace came on in relief of Logan Stewart and pitched 5.1 innings. He gave up 3 hits, walked 1 and Struck out 4 to pick up the win.
Stewart went 1.2 innings, gave up 1 run on 1 hit and walked 4.
The Dawgs were able to chase Eureka's Ace, Rowan Burrow, off the hill after 4.1 innings.
With the win, Whitefish improves to 1-1 on the season.
Eureka falls to 0-3, 0-2 in conference play.
