Whitefish Soccer Teams Sweep 1st Round with Dramatics, Flare

The Class A Soccer Playoffs kicked off over the weekend, with both Whitefish teams hosting first-round matchups as the postseason got underway.

The Bulldog boys took the pitch first, welcoming Lockwood in a contest that would go down to the wire.

Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation, sending the match into extra time still deadlocked at 0-0. That's when the scoring finally opened up. Lockwood struck first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Dawgs responded quickly with an equalizer of their own to even the score at 1-1.

With neither side able to find a winner in extra time, the match came down to a penalty shootout — and that's where Whitefish delivered. The Dawgs converted four attempts while holding Lockwood to two, earning a 4-2 shootout victory and advancing in the Class A playoffs.

In the second match of the day, the Lady Dawgs welcomed Park High, looking to punch their own ticket to the semifinals.

Whitefish struck first, with Atley Bingham finding the back of the net to give the Lady Dawgs a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Dawgs added another goal late in the match to extend their lead to 2-0 before going on to secure a 3-1 victory and complete the opening round sweep for Whitefish soccer.

With both teams picking up playoff wins on home turf, the Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs are moving on to the Class A semifinal round.

The boys will face Park/Sweet Grass, while the Lady Dawgs are set to take on Laurel.

Semifinal locations, dates, and times are yet to be announced.
