The Whitefish Bulldog Baseball team was back in action, Friday afternoon, matching up with Flathead for the first time ever, on the diamond.
The Whitefish vs. Flathead rivalry dates back decades but the two teams haven't faced as often in recent years.
Saturday's historic match-up is sure to be the first of many between these foes for years to come.
Flathead's in their inaugural year while Whitefish has established themselves as one of the better teams in Class "A".
Finn Ryan tallied a pair of hits, Whitefish scored 9 1st inning runs and the Dawgs defeated Flathead 16-6 in 5 innings.
Whitefish's opening inning was the difference in this one. Reyd Hobart's 2-RBI Double opened up the game and put Whitefish on top 6-0 at the time and it was all Bulldogs from there.
Flathead would respond, scoring 4-runs in the bottom of the 1st to cut into the lead but Whitefish got them right back with a 4-run 2nd.
Dalen plated 2, with a 2-out Double in the frame. Whitefish scored at least 1-run or more in all 5 innings.
Gavin Knapp and Ashton Mintz combined to throw 5 innings in relief. The pair gave up 3 rusn on 3 hits and struck out 3.
Flathead tossed 4 pitchers in the game.
Eli Coopman, Flathead's Ace, was chased after .2 innings pitched.
The Dawgs totaled 5 hits in the contest, walked 18 times and 3 batters were hit in the game.
Flathead would total just 4 hits and walked 6 times.
Ryan went 2-3 in the contest with 2 RBI and a Run scored.
Luke Dalen and Reyd Hobart each had 2RBI Base knocks in the contest.
Following the win the Dawgs are now 2-1 overall, 1-1 in league play.
Flathead drops to 2-4 overall.
Up Next: Whitefish returns to conference play as they are scheduled to travel down to Polson, on Tuesday, for a match-up with the Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm.
