The Whitefish Basketball teams were back at home, on Saturday, as they played host to Bigfork for a conference double header.
The Lady Dawgs and Valkyries took to the hardwood first and put on a show.
For the Lady Dawgs, this was a chance to knock off the top team, Bigfork, who has won the conferenc the last several years.
Whitefish fell just short of that goal.
It was a low scoring first quarter of action as Whitefish trailed 10-6 after the opening frame.
The Lady Dawgs would flip the switch in the 2nd quarter. Allie Shors scored 10 in the quarter and as a team they dropped 18 in the frame and led 24-13 at the half.
Bigfork would not back down. Their star player and Carroll College Commit, Paeten Gunlock, took over in the 2nd half.
Whitefish would score 10 in the 3rd quarter but found their double digit lead cut to just 5 as they led 34-29 entering the 4th.
Whitefish's Avery Orme played a stellar game, defensively, tasked with guarding Gunlock and when she fouled out in the 4th quarter, that's when the tide began to shift Bigfork's way.
The game would go into overtime with the Vals coming back to win it, 51-48.
Gunlock led the way with a game high 39 points. She made two 3-pointers and was 11-19 at the Free Throw line.
As a team Bigfork was 15-34 from the Charity Stripe.
For the Lady Dawgs, Avery Orme led the way with 19 points while Allie Shors added 15.
The Lady Dawgs were just 3-15 from the Free Throw line in this one.
